Biography

Diane Fergurson is a mixed media artist who relocated from St. Louis to New Jersey in 1997. Prior to her move Diane was on the teaching staff at Craft Alliance Center for the Visual Arts, The Center for Contemporary Arts (COCA), as well as two deaf oral schools. The artwork she exhibited and sold was primarily ceramic dinnerware and jewelry.
"Even when I was working in clay I found myself more intrigued by the surface design and texture of the piece rather then the form itself."

This ongoing interest in texture and pattern soon led her to explore the design world of textiles and also motivated deeper studies into papermaking, printmaking and encaustic techniques. Once in New Jersey all of these varied processes combined with acrylic painting into her current mixed media work.

In addition to her art background Diane holds a Master's Degree in Social Work from Washington University, and has spent a number of years combining art with counseling, community work and teaching. Among the places she has exhibited since she began painting and residing in New Jersey are City Without Walls, Seton Hall Law Library, New Jersey Center for the Visual Arts, Montclair State University, Maplewood Arts Center, William Paterson University and The Interchurch Center Gallery in New York.
